Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or can’t use it properly:
Insulin: A hormone that regulates blood sugar by helping it enter cells for energy
Blood sugar: Also called blood glucose, it’s the body’s main source of energy
Symptoms: Often there are no symptoms, but when they do occur, they can include excessive thirst or urination, fatigue, weight loss, or blurred vision
Diabetes can lead to serious health problems over time, including:
Heart disease
Vision loss
Kidney disease
Nerve damage (neuropathy)
Retinopathy, which can lead to blindness
Diabetes-related foot conditions
Skin infections
Amputations
There’s no cure for diabetes, but it can be managed with diet, oral medications, or insulin. Regular screening for complications is also important.
Some factors that may increase the risk of diabetes include: Consuming sugar-sweetened drinks, Eating a diet high in saturated and trans fats, Eating too much white rice, and Lack of physical activity.
