Legend® Multi Dose Vial is an FDA-approved product that uses hyaluronate sodium to treat fetlock or carpus joint dysfunction associated with non-infectious synovitis caused by osteoarthritis in horses. Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan that exists in several forms. One of these forms is hyaluronate sodium. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the connective tissue, umbilical cord, vitreous humor, and skin of every mammal. High concentrations also exist in the synovial fluid of the joints. Hyaluronate sodium aids in the healing of degenerative joint disease. It regulates normal cellular constituents, decreasing the impact of exudation, release of enzymes, and joint integrity degradation. Hyaluronate sodium also exerts anti-inflammatory action because it inhibits the movement of macrophages and granulocytes.
