Sildenafil is available with a veterinarian prescription. It is often prescribed to treat lung and heart problems, including pulmonary hypertension. Sildenafil decreases the blood pressure within the lung arteries. Pulmonary hypertension is abnormally high blood pressure within the lung arteries. This causes the right side of the heart to work too hard. Sildenafil relaxes the smooth muscle around the small blood vessels within the lungs, which decreases the heart’s workload. This medication works to improve overall quality of life, tolerance to exercise, and energy levels of animals suffering from pulmonary hypertension.

Drug & Food Interactions	Drug interactions can occur when Sildenafil is administered with rifampin, phenobarbital, itraconazole, ketoconazole, clarithromycin, erythromycin, and cimetidine. Do not administer with drugs that can lower blood pressure, including hypotensive drugs, amlodipine, alpha-adrenergic blockers (including phenothiazines, phenoxybenzamine, and phentolamine), nitroprusside sodium, and nitrates.
