Temaril-P (Trimeprazine with Prednisolone) is an oral medication prescribed to relieve irritation of the throat and coughing associated with allergic bronchitis. This easy-to-administer medication helps to relieve itching and inflammation due to allergies and other causes, working to prevent and suppress coughing. Plus, it comes in a tablet form, so you can feed it by mouth.
Uses
Temaril-P (Trimeprazine with Prednisolone) is formulated to help relieve itching and inflammation associated with allergies and other causes. It is intended to be used as a cough suppressant and is easy to administer. As with any antitussive treatment, the source of a cough should be determined and eliminated if possible. Temaril-P (Trimeprazine with Prednisolone) may be administered to animals suffering from acute or chronic bacterial infections as long as the infection is controlled by appropriate antibiotics or chemotherapeutic agents.
Possible Side Effects
If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving Temaril-P (Trimeprazine with Prednisolone) and seek emergency veterinary medical attention; an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips, tongue or face; hives). Trimeprazine can cause drowsiness, tremors and muscle weakness. Prednisolone may cause symptoms of Cushing’s disease which include increased thirst, urination and hunger as well as vomiting and diarrhea. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.
Drug & Food Interactions
Do not give any other over the counter or prescription medications, including herbal products, during treatment with Temaril-P (Trimeprazine with Prednisolone) without first talking to the veterinarian. Many other medications can interact with Temaril-P (Trimeprazine with Prednisolone) resulting in side effects or altered effectiveness. These include sedatives, anesthetics, pain medications, epinephrine and procaine.
Precautions
Do not use Temaril-P (Trimeprazine with Prednisolone) in animals with tuberculosis, peptic ulcer, and Cushing’s syndrome. Use with extreme caution in pregnant animals. Watch for evidence of concurrent infection.

Recommended Dosage
The same dosage schedule may be followed for both antipruritic and antitussive therapy. The weight of the dog’s initial dosage is as follows: up to 10 lb take 1/2 tablet twice daily, 11–20 lb take 1 tablet twice daily, 21–40 lb take 2 tablets twice daily and over 40 lb take 3 tablets twice daily. After 4 days, reduce dosage to 1/2 of the initial dose or to an amount just sufficient to maintain remission of symptoms. The individual animal response will vary and dosage should be adjusted until proper response. Always follow dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian.
Storage Instructions
Store in a cool, dry place at temperatures below 77°F.
