Description
Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic, in the same family as erythromycin, used primarily in chickens, turkeys, swine, and honey bees. It is used in cats, dogs, and small mammals to treat diarrhea, gastrointestinal tract inflammation, chronic colitis and inflammatory bowel disease. The use of Tylosin in cats, dogs and small mammals is “off-label” which is common in veterinary medicine, follow your veterinarians directions very carefully as they may differ from the label on the product.

Uses
Tylosin is indicated as an antibiotic used for colitis and chronic diarrhea. Tylosin may also decrease the symptoms by affecting the immune system in the intestine.

You might receive this product under a different name as a generic formulation of Tylosin Tartrate.

Possible Side Effects

Side effects that usually are not serious include: Loose stools, mild diarrhea, and stomach upset. You don’t have to be overly concerned if you see any of these signs unless they are severe, worsen, or continue to be a problem. Contact your veterinarian if this happens. Side effect that may be serious or indicate a serious problem: Bloody diarrhea. If you see this sign, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your dog is taking before starting this medication.
Precautions

Not for Human use. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with human skin. Exposure to tylosin may cause a rash. Residue warnings: Chickens must not be slaughtered for food within 24 hours after treatment. Turkeys must not be slaughtered for food within five days after treatment. Swine must not be slaughtered for food within 48 hours after treatment. Honey bees: The drug should be fed early in the spring or fall and consumer by the bees before the main honey flow begins, to avoid contamination of production honey. Complete treatments at least 4 weeks prior to main honey flow. Adverse reactions, including shock and death may result from over-dosage in baby pigs.
