When choosing the right shampoo for your horse, it all comes down to the product’s active ingredients. All shampoos contain 80-90% water and active ingredients make up the rest.

The main ingredients in horse shampoos generally are:

Keratin: is a key structural protein found in the hair shaft. It breaks down over time from age.
Oil: which moisturizes and creates a barrier that prevents dehydration.
Panthenol: Provitamin B5. When absorbed by the skin, the provitamin is converted to Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), which moisturizes, repairs and revitalizes skin.
Pyrithione zinc & Benzalkonium chloride: have antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties that can help treat seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff).
